Yes! A huge benefit of regularly having your tile and grout cleaned is it will keep them looking like new. “But my tiles look fine,” you might say. Yes, they may LOOK clean, but even if you can’t see dirt or dust on your tiles that doesn’t mean there isn’t any. Grouting between tiles is almost like a sponge; it absorbs all the dirt, dust, oil and chemicals that get tracked across your floors. These contaminates will eventually make their way through your grout and onto the tile surface where you can see them (and track them around like crazy). Even worse for your tiles, these contaminants can cause discoloration over time as they settle into the tiny pores of your tile and grout.

For example, the first thing to do for dirty tile grout is to vacuum or sweep away any loose dirt. Dirt particles lodged in grout lines make cleaning very difficult because they act like sandpaper on the cleaning tools. Once your grout is free of dirt particles, you can use one of many different chemical products to chemically dissolve the incredibly difficult dirt deposits that are lodged in the pores of the grout.

The best thing you can do to maintain the look of your tiles and grouts is to keep them as dry as possible. Many people assume that because tile and grout are waterproof, they don’t need special care; however, the opposite is true! With the proper care, your tiles can last for decades. To keep your tile and grout looking their best between cleanings, sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any loose dirt and dust. If you have pets or small children that track in dirt particles all day long, we recommend wet mopping at least once a week (wet mopping will not harm your tile). When you’re mopping, be sure to wring the mop as dry as possible and do not allow excess water or cleaning solution to sit on your floor. You can also use a grout reconditioning product which will help remove dirt and discoloration from between tiles.

Unfortunately, using steam cleaners will not clean grout. To properly clean your tile and grout, you need to use a high-pressure water or chemical cleaner that can dissolve the deep-set dirt as well as scrubbing tools such as brushes and microfiber cloths that can dislodge it from tiny pores in the grout lines. Steam cleaners use extremely hot steam to kill bacteria and mould, but they do not remove dirt.
